What is the Xiaopeng/ Xpeng G3?
Electric cars are the future of automobiles! Hence, different countries have been trying their best to make different electric cars.
Native to America is the Tesla and the Chevrolet Volt; Japan has the Toyota Prius amongst other Toyotas, the Nissan Leaf and many others; while Germany has the Mercedes Benz EQC, BMW i8 and many others… But,how about China? In what way are they trying to be a part of this wave?
We know for sure, that the Chinese will always attempt to associate with anything that has to do with technology, and they are reputable for making very beautiful and reliable products. (though we might sometimes get the inferior ones over here).
Inevitably, in 2015, one of the founders of UCWeb -was acquired by Alibaba group in 2014, He (Xiaopeng) co-founded a start-up New Energy Vehicle company named XIAOPENG.
That definitely was and is a step into the future.
XIAOPENG AND TESLA
Xiaopeng builds cars using Tesla patents. Elon Musk has said Tesla’s patents are open to others to use, and Xiaopeng, is taking advantage of that policy.
The G3 strongly resembles current Teslas in its front end styling and use of a large vertical touchscreen like the one found in the Tesla Model S and Model X.
THE GEEK 3
The X-Peng G3, which is short for Geek 3, is a crossover SUV- Sport Utility Vehicle that was initially revealed as the X-Peng Beta.
The car handles well, without any accentuated gravity shifts typical with an SUV. Body rolls are minimal and the car’s interior is well thought out with great design, practicality and appeal.
The interior proportions are as pleasing as the exterior as the vehicle is comfortable on the inside. The vehicle has a panoramic roof which makes you feel like you’re driving in a convertible.
By now you are probably wondering what that strange looking apparatus is on top of the car. It is a multi-directional camera (180 degree rotation), which gives the driver and passengers an overview of the outside world.
The camera can take pictures and quick glances before opening doors, which can be practical if you cannot see enough of what is going on outside the car. It also acts as an added layer of security when parking in unfamiliar places.
Its most captivating function is that it works with a number of other cameras enabling the car to automatically park itself.
Due to local parking conditions, the auto-parking and 180-degree rotating camera, makes perfect sense in China.
The Geek 3 has a range of 365 kilometers before it needs a recharge. It puts out about 200 horsepowers, 220 pound-feet of torques.
And all you need to do is plug it in at a devoted power station, like this one below or into a 240V socket and leave it charging overnight. Life is easy.
The 2 wheel drive version can do 0-100km/hr times of 7.9 seconds, while the 4WD will do it in about 5.7 seconds. And it has a top speed of about 170km/hr.
Below is an all-round tour of the vehicle. Feed your eyes and mind (Smiles…)
Surprisingly, it is quite cheap, starting out at just about $21,500 (7.7 million naira).
The G3 is not yet available for export, even though if it was, it won’t be advisable for use in Nigeria due to lack of meaningful electricity and roads that can easily cause the interior workings of the beauty to go haywire. We hope that in the nearest future, our country becomes more habitable for innovative tech like this.
