It’s small, it’s fast, it’s naturally aspirated, and it squeals like a banshee! And yes, it is very expensive… Those seem to be the characteristics of a supercar🤔🤔…
Because that’s what it is!!! It is even an icon of the best Marvel character
(in my view) … Iron Man (ever heard of him?).

This is Your Supercar; The Audi R8!!!
A BRIEF HISTORY
In the early 2000s, most car manufacturers wanted to create supercars; Mercedes had the Mclaren project, BMW was improving their M series, and just like their competitors BMW and Mercedes (all german machines), Audi also wanted to do something phenomenal.
The chief designer at Audi at that time, Walter De Silva, went to the board and was like: “Yo, did you hear that Mercedes and McLaren are building a luxury sportscar?” And they were like; “Yeah, so?” And he said: “I can put us in the game too, and even make something better, trust me on this.” So the board looked at him and said; “Hmmm… okay, lets see what you can do”… (My Own Scenario ni oh).
If only they had known that in that moment, they made history!!!
The first prototype began testing in January 2006. The concept for the car was released on the 30th of September 2006 at the Paris Auto Show event. What exactly were we to expect from the R8? Could it compete with the predecessor, the Audi TT? Could it blow the minds of Audi fans and catch the eye of other people?
The first Audi R8 car was unveiled in 2008. The unveiled car was truly a sight to behold and boy she was fast. It had a naturally aspirated 4.2L V8 engine that pumped out 420 horsepower and 317 pound- feet of torques, Audi’s quattro all wheel drive that allowed it to sprint from a stop with almost no tyre spin and it had a 6-speed manual gearbox. It also had a 0-100km/hr time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of almost 300km/hr.
The R8 is beautiful, has a sleek interior, and the engine is mounted in the middle of the vehicle.
You know how it is about power, it’s intoxicating, you can never have enough of it. That was Audi’s pitiable situation.
In 2010, Audi made a business deal with Lamborghini to build a V10 engine for the R8. The Lambo V10:
- Had 5.2 litres of displacement
- Produced 525horsepower at 8000rpm.
- It had a torque of 391 Ib-Ft at 6500 torque rpm.
- All wheel drive, baby
- 0-100km/hr time was faster, 3.9seconds,
- Top speed 320km/hr, and it had powerful brakes.
I’m in loveeee…….
Audi released more models of the Audi R8 but the turning point came when the 2015 model was released. It was tagged the second generation Audi R8.
To see if we have sparked your interest, I’m not going to say anything about it. We want you to look up the specs and tell us what you found and also what makes it different from the older models. The comment section should suffice.
Audi has also released Spider/Spyder and GT versions of the car.
A spider/spyder car is a convertible version of car.
Spider was originally meant for cars with no weather protection for the driver (i.e the drive has no protection against rain, snow, sun, hail, etc.) but with time, it became the name for most convertibles: THE MORE YOU KNOW…
As for GT, GT stands for Grand Touring or Gran Turismo. It is a name given to a car with great speed ability like a race car but the inside of the car is comfortable unlike the inside of an actual race car.
P.S: Your Supercar is a new category that is here to help us to learn about supercars together. It is a biweekly series that will bring you interesting information about speed monsters.
