If you are a supercar enthusiast like myself, there’s no way you won’t love the Koenigsegg Agera.
It is the fire-spitting, breathtaking, mind-numbing unofficial fastest car in the world with a top speed of well over 270mph!!!
Today on “Your Supercar”, we will be telling you all you need to know about the “Koenigsegg Agera”!
Christian Von Koenigsegg
Before I jump into talking about the Agera, I’d like acknowledge the owner and CEO of the Koeniggsegg car company.
Koenigsegg is an automobile company that was “born” on the 12th of August, 1994 by a driven 22 year old Swedish man named Christian Von Koeniggsegg. Christian Von Koenigsegg was a young man who went after his dream of making the fastest production car ever with all he had; he is a really driven person. Feel free to look him up any time.
Not so rocky start…
From it’s start in 1994, Koenigsegg has always been about innovation. It has accomplished some awesome feats over its 24 year history such as the Guinness World Record for world’s most powerful production engine; world’s most powerful production car and world’s fastest car.
It started breaking and setting new records as far back as 2002. It had the most powerful production engine in its CC8S in 2002.
In February 2003, Koenigsegg suffered from a fire that consumed their factory at Margeretetorp. The thatched roof of the building was consumed by flames.
Although all the cars made it out safely thanks to the efforts of the Koenigsegg family (the workers), a lot of valuable documents and other important items were destroyed. This, however, did not deter the Koenigsegg.
The following year they unveiled the Koenigsegg CCR which became the most powerful production car in 2004 and the fastest car in the world in 2005
2010, The birth of the AGERA
In the year 2010, the Koenigsegg Agera was born. As a matter of fact, the word “AGERA” means… wait for it… “to take action”.
She is a beauty, she has VGR wheels which are shaped like turbines to extract heat from the car’s brakes (Genius!!!).
It was the Agera that symbolised the transition of Koenigsegg from twin super-charging to twin turbo-charging. (We’ll write about them soon).
The 2010 Agera uses a compact 5.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 960 hp and over 1100Nm torque (Man, that’s what I call taking action! What a beast).
It has a top speed of 284mph (457.1kph). That is twice as fast as your average car moving at its top speed and it could do 0-100 kph in 3.0 seconds. Is this car awesome or what?
The Agera won Top Gear Hyper Car of the Year (Top Gear is a British TV series that tests and gives reviews and opinion on awesome cars).
KOENIGSEGG AGERA “R”
In 2011, Koeniggsegg unveiled the Agera R. Before that time, Koeniggsegg had been working on engines capable of using ethanol as a fuel.
Ethanol is a biofuel seeing as it is obtained from biomass like corn and the likes. Biofuels are in grades, E85 for example stands for 85% Ethanol and 15% Petrol, E100 is 100% (pure) ethanol. The Agera R can use any fuel from 95 octane pump gas to E100. That includes E10, E20 to E85.
When the Agera R uses 95 octane fuel, it produces 960hp but when it uses E85 or E100, it gets an insane boost to 1140hp with a torque of 1200Nm.
The Agera R still used a 5.0L twin-turbocharged engine. The Agera has a record of 0-300-0kph in 21.19 seconds (ie. from rest to 300kph back to rest, it took only 21.19 seconds).
It is as though Koenigsegg was not satisfied; they had newer and better ideas and ladies and gents, that’s when they released the Koenigsegg Agera S. Well, why wouldn’t they?
This model of Agera was made for customers who do not have access to biofuels. They attempted to obtain the maximum output they could when using 95 octane fuel and of course they succeeded.
Now, this Agera model can attain 1000hp on normal 95 octane fuel. They also reduced the car weight by using Carbon Fibre wheels which were lighter and consequently improved acceleration and handling.
Just like I did in my last review, I’m going to encourage you all to look up the Koenigsegg Agera RS which was first shown in March 2015. Oops, the excitement made me say too much. I once told a friend of mine that “If I give you all the answers, you won’t learn anything”, so anyway, have fun.✌
I can’t just be hyping the Agera, thus, I also have to tell you very briefly about some of its cons. It has more pros than cons though:
1. It is very expensive. It is worth 2.1 million dollars.
2. It’s has poor rear visibility. Just a small opening in the back. I guess it was built to go forward but I’m sure Koenigsegg were smart enough to put a rear camera.
This is it for this post. Have a great read.
